Learn about Bagel's Slack integration and how to get started

What the Bagel Slack app does

The Bagel Slack app connects your Slack workspace to Bagel so your team can capture customer feedback and stay on top of product decisions without leaving Slack. It does two main things:

  • Notifications & updates in Slack — Bagel delivers product-decision updates and notifications directly inside Slack, so the people who need them see them where they already work.

  • Customer-feedback capture from channels — Bagel analyzes messages from the relevant Slack channels for customer feedback, turning conversations into structured signal inside Bagel (tied back to accounts and revenue impact).

Your workspace stays in control of what Bagel can see: Bagel can access public channels once it's installed, and it can only see a private channel if you add it to that channel — see "Accessing Private channels" below.

OAuth2 Connection

  1. Go to Bagel AI Slack Integration

  2. Please select the relevant checkboxes:

    1. Grey scopes: Mandatory for the integration to work at a basic level.

    2. Blue scopes: Optional, but Recommended to maximize value.

  3. Click Connect with Slack.

  4. You will be redirected to Slack’s login page.

  5. Sign in to your Slack account.

  6. On the authorization screen, click Allow.

Accessing Private Channels

Some cases require granting access to a specific private channels.

If the app does not yet have access to a specific private channel, you can grant access from Slack:

  1. Go to the private channel in Slack:

    1. Shortcut --> Type /invite @bagel

    2. Add Bagel to the member list:

      1. Open the channel members

      2. Navigate to Integrations

      3. Under Apps, click Add App

      4. Search for Bagel and click Add

Public vs. Private Channels

Slack workspaces have two types of channels: Public and Private.

  1. Public channels:

    Access is granted automatically once the integration is connected. No additional action is required.

  2. Private channels:

    Access is only granted if both conditions are met:

    1. The private channel permissions are enabled during OAuth setup

    2. The Bagel app is a member of the private channel

Getting started after you connect

Once you've connected Slack:

  1. Make sure Bagel can see the right channels. Bagel can access your workspace's public channels automatically. To include a private channel, add the Bagel app to that channel. The specific set of channels Bagel draws feedback from is agreed and configured together with the Bagel team.

  2. Feedback starts flowing into Bagel. Messages from the included channels are analyzed and surfaced as customer feedback in Bagel, linked to the relevant accounts.

  3. Get updates back in Slack. Product-decision notifications and updates from Bagel are delivered to you inside Slack.

That's it — from here you can manage everything else from the Bagel web app.
